Structure

This course is designed to be taken by a pair or group of people from different disciplines who are looking to work collaboratively on a materials and design project. If you already have a partner with whom you would like to take this course, you can get started straight away.

If you are looking for someone to take this course with, find a partner on our Google Group.

Videos

The course is structured around a series of 11 films, made during the 4 year LTM project. These videos track the progress of the project as it happened, and give an insight into the people behind the LTM materials, products and other outcomes, rather than presenting interdisciplinary research as a fait accompli.

Tasks

These videos are interspersed with some text to read and a series of tasks to complete. These tasks take the format of group activities and conversations. The tasks include:

  • Comprehension tasks to check you have understood the content of the films.
  • Communication tasks that facilitate important conversations between learners.
  • Practical tasks aimed at helping you develop methods for effective design-materials interaction.

Progress & Assessment

The bar at the top left of the screen will track your overall progress through the course. You are free to determine the order in which you take each element of the course, jumping ahead or going back to retake elements of the course as you wish.

You can keep track of which parts you have completed by looking for the sign. If you leave the course part way through you will be able to come back and resume where you left off at any time (on the same device).

The course does not carry credits or require formal deliverables. At the end of the course you will be asked for some optional feedback on your experience. This helps us to improve our offering of courses.

If you want to learn more about the academic research behind this course, there is a Further Reading section at the end of the course, We have tried to use free or pre-publication versions of research papers wherever possible to make this as open-access as we can. If you do not have institutional access to Wiley Online Library then you may need to purchase one of the items on the reading list, but the course can be taken without these papers.
